"Painting is not separate from life. It is one. It is like asking – do I want to live? My answer is yes – and I paint."
As an artist, Lee Krasner was creative in a myriad of ways. She was always challenging herself to try new things – for her, change was an important driver. Krasner immersed herself fully in her work, well aware of what she was aiming to achieve and not allowing herself to be deterred from her goal regardless of the resistance she might face. Lee Krasner is a pioneer of Abstract Expressionism. Not only is she one of the innovators of this US-american avantgarde movement, she assumes a leading role as one of the few female artists within this movement right from the beginning.
The great artist is now being honored in Europe once again – with an overview exhibition at the SCHIRN, which tells the story of one of the most imperturbable artists of the 20th century.
