STEALTH FOR SECRET MISSIONS
MANY ARTISTS ARE ALSO FASCINATED BY THE TRICKS AND METHODS OF SPIES. THEIR WORKS SHOW HOW ESPIONAGE CAN INSPIRE ART
In his Lightboxes series, Canadian artist Rodney Graham slips into various roles. In the middle of the greenery, he sits in his work "Newspaper Man" in an elegant suit on a park bench and seems to be engrossed in the daily newspaper in his hands. But look closely! Through two peepholes in the newspaper a pair of eyes peers curiously. Rodney Graham refers here to a typical spy activity. Inconspicuously, he observes his surroundings through the two peepholes. In order not to attract attention and to fulfill secret missions unnoticed, a good camouflage is important. This helps spies to change their appearance in such a way that they cannot be recognized at all or only with great difficulty. They also have to hide their equipment imaginatively: a mini-microphone in a wristwatch or a watering can with a camera can be technical aids. And what crazy tools from the world of espionage do you know?
YOU WILL NEED: AN OLD CAP OR HAT, FABRIC PAINTS, HOT GLUE, DOUBLE-SIDED TAPE, LEAVES, TWIGS AND OTHER MATERIALS SUCH AS WOOL, FABRIC SCRAPS, ETC.
INSTRUCTIONS
Use the textile dyes to color your cap any way you like. Think about where your first mission as a top spy will take place and design a suitable, inconspicuous pattern for the perfect camouflage. Leaves and twigs camouflage you among green trees and shrubs. Once the paints have dried, ask mom and dad for help as you attach the leaves to the cap with hot glue. To change your look, you can braid two long braids out of wool and stick them to the inside of your stealth cap with double-sided tape.
The technical equipment of famous spies like James Bond often has extraordinary functions. Does your invisibility cloak also hide a special technique? Our invisibility cloak has a black microphone built in and the round, reflective disk allows you to receive coded messages. Get inspired to create your own stealth cap and invent more great features for your spy gear!
