The Kunstverein Familie Montez presents the video installation (2022) by Stan Douglas ISDN as part of THE CULTURE.

The 2011 uprisings were spread via electronic media, which created global cultural reference points. One example is the worldwide adoption of hip hop, with genres such as "grime" in London and "mahraganat" in Cairo. ISDN is a method from the 1980s for transmitting digital audio data over copper telephone lines. Although superseded by internet technologies, it remains popular in recording studios due to its reliability.

In this fictional project, collectives from England and Egypt use discarded ISDN equipment to make music together. One group sends backing tracks to the other, while an MC freestyles about everyday politics and the roles are swapped.

The Kunstverein Familie Montez is presenting the video installation ISDN (2022) by Stan Douglas in cooperation with the SCHIRN for the duration of the exhibition THE CULTURE. There will also be a big block party in spring! With lectures, dance sessions and more.
