READING OF THE NOVEL "FAVORITA"

Author Michelle Steinbeck reads from her latest novel "Favorita" (2024) and engages with the audience about strong female characters and her work as a writer. "Favorita" describes the odyssey of the protagonist Fila as she follows in the footsteps of her deceased mother, tracing a genealogy of femicide.

Steinbeck writes prose, poetry, and works for theater, magazines, and newspapers. Her debut novel "My Father Was a Man on Land and a Whale in the Water" was nominated for both the Swiss and the German Book Prize in 2016; in 2018, she published the poetry collection "Einge­sperrte Vögel singen mehr". She is a columnist for WOZ – Die Wochenzeitung and a co-founder of the women's writers' collective RAUF in Zurich. She currently lives in Basel.
