Amna Elhassan's works are a celebration of female resilience and assertiveness, which she encountered in everyday life in Sudan as well as in the civil uprising against the dictatorial regime of Omar El Bashir. While teaching at the University of Khartoum, the artist witnessed the Sudanese revolution, which was largely led by women and became sadly famous for the massacre in Khartoum in June 2019, at close quarters.
