“Monument – Counter-Monument” (8th grade and older)
Hans Haacke’s “Gift Horse” serves as a counter-monument, referencing the traditional equestrian statue that glorified the powerful. The horse’s skeleton is equipped with an electronic display band showing stock market prices – a symbol of the power and success of our time. In this workshop, students can create their own anti-monuments from wire and decorate them with bands highlighting important themes.
“We (All) Are the People” (8th grade and older)
Which political statements affect all people, despite their different backgrounds, life experiences, and origins? Inspired by Hans Haacke’s poster “We (All) Are the People,” which expresses the unity of all people, students can go through a democratic process to collectively write a political demand on a poster.
